How to open a bank account in Israel
What to bring, which bank to choose, and how long it really takes.
Israel Relocation Editorial · Updated 24 Sept 2026

Opening an Israeli bank account is done in person, by appointment, at a specific branch. Bring your passport, your Teudat Zehut or visa, proof of address, and documentation for any money you plan to transfer in.
Choose the branch as much as the bank. Service quality varies enormously between branches, and an English-speaking banker in your own neighborhood is worth more than a marginally better fee schedule.
Expect the account to be usable within a few days, but expect limits on incoming international transfers until compliance checks clear. Ask directly about monthly fees, cheque books, and whether a credit card is issued immediately or after a review period.
This answer is part of a complete guide.
